[Play advocate: Scott MacKenzie speaking]
Okay, play is important for kids because it's actually the first initial stage of learning and development in their lives, to make sense of the world that they live in, get an understanding of who they are, where they are, and why they are.
Okay so the definition of play is it's intrinsically moded, freely chosen for no outcome. In a nutshell what that means is that we do not necessarily have to have direct adult involvement in all play experiences that children - or opportunities that children have.
For parents to get their kids playing more at home it's really important again to understand what your role is as the enabler of play.
How do you encourage them to make it happen, give them the time, the place…so if during the course of a day you actually make a specific time where it is playtime, they switch off the screens, they they get outside, they interact with their environment.
Even it's 15, 20, 30 minutes, you know, it's about again giving them space time and permission.
