Tākaro ki te kāinga - Play at home
Kei Ōtāne te whānau Pekepo-Ratu e noho ana, tokowaru rātou, ā, ka awhi rātou i ngā mea katoa o te tākaro Māori. Kei roto i tēnei ataata, ka kōrero rātou mō te wāhi ki ngā kaumātua i te whakakaha i te tākaro, i te reo Māori, me ngā kōrero tuku iho e ora tonu ai mō ngā uri whakaheke. Ka kitea tā te whānau nei whakarite kia noho ko te taiao hei wāhi tākaro mō ngā tamariki. Ka ako hoki tātou me pēhea te hono atu ki ngā tamariki mā roto i ngā tākaro Māori kua heke iho mai i ō rātou whakapapa.
The Pekepo-Ratu whānau of eight live in Ōtāne, Hawke's Bay and embrace all things tākaro Māori. In this video they share stories about the important role of kaumātua (grandparents) in enabling play, te reo Māori and kōrero tuku iho (stories of the past) to flourish across generations. We see examples of how this whānau make conscious decisions to centre their activities around taiao (environmental) experiences for their tamariki. We also learn practical tips on how to connect and engage tamariki through playful experiences that connect back to their whakapapa (geneology).
