Graduate Programme 2015 - 2016

Kia ora, my name is Glenn Eyers, and I was lucky enough to be part of the Sport NZ Graduate Programme from 2015-2016. It was an awesome experience that gave me a deep understanding of how the New Zealand sport system works and really sparked my passion for sport.

In my first year, I was based at the Sport NZ office in Wellington, where I got to work on exciting projects like developing the Talent Plan, which is now being rolled out nationwide. In my second year, I was placed with Sport Bay of Plenty and Cycling New Zealand. I dived into a wide range of projects, from school sport reviews and youth engagement to organising major sporting events. It was such a great opportunity to see how two very different organisations operate and learn heaps along the way.

After the programme, I had the chance to play semi-professional hockey in England. That was an incredible experience, both on and off the field, and gave me a fresh perspective on how sport is run overseas. When I returned home, I worked in marketing at Good George Brewing, where I learned a lot about how businesses operate and gained skills I knew I could bring back to the sport world.

I then stepped into a role as a Digital Marketing Coordinator at Sport New Zealand, where I spent nearly three years combining my love of sport and marketing. It was amazing to connect with communities across Aotearoa and play a part in promoting sport and recreation.

I later studied to become a Physical Education and Health Teacher through the University of Waikato and am now teaching PE at Alleyn's School in London. I love being able to share my passion for sport and fitness with young people and inspire the next generation to get active and enjoy everything sport has to offer.
