Are there restrictions which still apply to sport and recreation?  

No, there are no longer any restrictions for sport and recreation (both participating and spectating).  

Does this replace the traffic light system?  

Yes, the new strategy announced by Government will replace the Covid Protection Framework, or traffic light system, along with the associated restrictions. The new strategy and updated guidance can be found here 

Are there restrictions for athletes or teams flying to New Zealand to compete?  

No, there are no longer any requirements around doing a COVID test on arrival however guidance is that those arriving to the country should complete a test on day one and day five.  

What do the changes to household contacts mean for sports tournaments or events?  

People sharing accommodation at tournaments or events were considered ‘household contacts’ and under the old framework, were required to self-isolate for seven days if someone tested positive for COVID-19. Now, there is no self-isolation requirement for household contacts, just guidance to test daily for five days.
