CLM - Community Leisure Management’s biggest positive impact on the environment would come from reducing water, gas, and electricity use across its network according to advice from Toitū Envirocare, an organisation that helps businesses improve sustainability.

To drive change, CLM created a new role Sustainability Projects Manager to work with facility operators. The next step involved the CLM Sustainability Green team, which includes representatives from different facilities, implementing local site-specific sustainability projects. Key to the success was upgrading CLM’s utility tracking software and providing training to help the team use the tool effectively.

From July 2023 to March 2024, CLM saved 55,000 kWh more energy than the same period last year. That’s enough to power 125 electric cars for a whole year! And, the impact goes beyond environmental sustainability, with CLM also successfully slashing energy expenditure demonstrating CLM’s commitment to both eco-friendly practices and smart resource management.

CLM - Community Leisure Management was a finalist in the inaugural Environmental Sustainability Award at the NZ Sport and Recreation Awards 2024.
