Albany Stadium Pool Solar Panel Installation

Auckland Council – Albany Stadium Pool Solar Panel Installation

Auckland Council’s Project Gigawatt funding has seen the installation of solar panels on the roof of Albany Stadium Pool, as part of its plan to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency in the Community Facilities.

The solar panel system will generate about 20% of the pool’s electricity needs. By doing this, the pool’s carbon footprint will be cut by 35 tonnes of CO2 each year, which is like planting 370 trees annually. This project is a great step towards creating clean, renewable energy for the community.

Auckland Council is committed to its climate action plan by working on other sustainability projects. They have installed a new solar panel system at the Manurewa Pool and Leisure Centre and plan to add more at other pools. Solar panels are also being installed in roofs of libraries and community centres, and they’ve put solar pumps at the Anawhata Farm and Pae-0-Te-Rangi Farm, with plans for many more similar projects.
