Evaluation

Healthy Active Learning

Massey University has led the evaluation of Healthy Active Learning. It is focused on understanding: 

  1. How well Healthy Active Learning is being implemented and progressing toward achieving its 6 outcomes 
  2. The impact Healthy Active Learning has on achieving the desired outcomes.

National Evaluation Summary March 2023

The most recent evaluation shows that Healthy Active Learning is achieving most of its intended short-term outcomes and positive changes towards achieving medium term outcomes are emerging.

The findings also show:

Schools, kura and kaiako (teachers) engaged in Healthy Active Learning have:

  • Made physical activity more visible in their school charters and strategic plans.
  • Improved processes and teaching practice to support quality, inclusive and culturally responsive play, active recreation, sport, and health and physical education.
  • Improved access to facilities and equipment that promote students to be physically active.
  • Continued to highly value healthy eating and drinking as a key part of student wellbeing – including a great number committing to healthy food and drink policies.

The impact on ākonga (students) includes:

  • More positive attitudes towards physical activity.
  • Increased confidence to take part in a range of physical activities.
  • Increased enjoyment from being active.
