Impacting change

Impacting change
Sport NZ is partnering with IMPACT organisations to better understand challenges and opportunities faced by local and regional groups working within the physical activity system.

The IMPACT project (Innovative Movement Partners Activating Community Transformation), run by the Active Recreation and Locally-Led team at Sport NZ, aims to draw on the collective knowledge of these community-based organisations from across the motu to create system change.  The organisations involved are leaders in their respective communities when it comes to taking a rangatahi and whānau-centered approach to wellbeing, including supporting their communities to be more active.

A ‘physical activity for youth and whānau development’ approach aligns with the Active Recreation for Rangatahi Plan 2021 – 2024 and the Sport NZ three approaches. The mahi and values of the organisations involved also map strongly to the Sport NZ Preferred Futures pou.

Through ongoing connections, we want to understand how Sport NZ can create conditions for more organisations, like those that are part of the IMPACT project, to flourish.

The IMPACT project is about better understanding the HOW

  • How we can better understand these organisations and others like them?
  • How we can reduce the barriers preventing their growth and stability?
  • How do they exist in an environment that doesn’t support them as well as it could?
  • How do we advocate to better support those using active recreation as a vehicle for youth development?
  • How can we create conditions for more organisations outside of the IMPACT project to flourish?
