Three Approaches

Insights. Locally led. Physical literacy.
Creating happier, healthier people and better-connected communities

Sport NZ’s Three Approaches aim to create better quality experiences for participants and encourage their ongoing participation in physical activity.

Our focus is on young people (ages 5 to 18) and putting them at the centre to drive meaningful and positive change.

Three Approaches video

The Three Approaches video describes how the Insights, Locally Led and Physical Literacy Approaches can be used to drive meaningful and positive change.

It includes a short case study to show how the Three Approaches can be used together to successfully engage with the community.

Three Approaches Guide

Use this guide to find out more about the Three Approaches for working with people and communities to create quality physical activity experiences.

The Three Approaches below outline the importance of using evidence, community input and a holistic approach to support more New Zealanders into a lifelong love of being physically active.

The Three Approaches help create better quality experiences that grow individuals’ physical literacy and encourage ongoing participation. Used together, the Approaches are very powerful. They can also be used individually.

Find out in more detail about each of the approaches and how you can embed them to see positive results in your community.

Maturity models

Organisations can work out how well they are embedding each of the Three Approaches by working through these interactive planning tools.
