Duane joined the Board in 2021 and is Acting Chair of Sport NZ and High Performance Sport NZ.

Paralympian #96, Duane achieved multi medal success at the Atlanta Paralympic Games and was Chef de Mission for the New Zealand team to the Beijing 2008 and the London 2012 Paralympic Games. He was elected to the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board in 2013, and served as Vice President from 2017 - 2025.

He is on the International Olympic Committee Co-ordination Commissions for LA2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Duane was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to swimming. He holds an MBA from Massey University.
