Support for compulsory life jacket law - 7 Oct 2013Maritime New Zealand supports a move to make the wearing of lifejackets compulsory for people under 15, and continues to encourage everyone on the water to wear lifejackets at all times. The move to make life jackets compulsory for young people is similar to legislation already enacted in the United States. (Maritime New Zealand)

Ki-o-rahi and 3on3 basketball debut on 2014 New Zealand Secondary Schools Sports Council calendar - October 2013Schools will be able to compete for the title of New Zealand Secondary Schools Ki o Rahi and 3on3 Basketball Champions from 2014. Tennis NZ launches new kids programme - 14 Oct 2013Tennis Hot Shots helps children learn to play on the right size court using racquets that are perfect for small hands and softer, super-hittable balls that don't bounce too high. Record numbers flock to 30th anniversary Ironman New Zealand - 17 Oct 2013Ironman New Zealand will boast record numbers when it celebrates its 30th anniversary in Taupo next March. 2000 entries have been received, more than 300 up on the previous highest number of entries. British colleges at heart of community sport-growth predicted - October 2013A study of sport in British colleges has revealed that a record number of facilities are opening up to local communities with further growth predicted. Sport England has invested  £17m in 153 new sports co-ordinators to help colleges boost participation in sport on campus. Record numbers in Australia playing cricket - 26 Aug 2013The Australian Cricket Census has revealed that a record 951,933 participants played cricket at local grounds, schools and indoor centres across Australia in 2012-13.The overall national growth of 8.2% is underpinned by significant growth in female, club cricket and entry-level participation.
