Sport NZ and ACC team up to keep communities active
Sport NZ and ACC have signed a refreshed 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to make play, active recreation and sport safer and more accessible for everyone.
This long-term partnership reflects a shared commitment to the proven benefits of physical activity for wellbeing. Together, Sport NZ and ACC will focus on helping more people stay healthy and physically active for life.
The MOU sets the foundation for a series of collaborative initiatives where both organisations can make a meaningful impact – including increasing the reach of injury prevention, sport concussion prevention and awareness, balanced female health in sport and physical activity, and building sector capability.
Sport NZ Group Manager of Play, Active Recreation and Sport Jim Ellis says the agreement builds on a strong history of collaboration between the 2 agencies:
“Sport NZ and ACC have worked closely together for many years, to offer higher quality sport and recreation experiences for participants of all ages and abilities. Our relationship continues to grow, encouraging all Kiwis to remain active throughout their lives, and driving collaborative projects.”
ACC Acting Deputy Chief Executive Strategy, Engagement and Prevention Shaun Jones says the partnership reinforces the importance of staying injury-free to support lifelong participation:
“This is an exciting opportunity for ACC and Sport NZ to make a difference. This agreement formalises our long-standing working relationship and our shared vision of supporting New Zealanders to be active, while also proactively preventing harm and injury which can be a barrier to ongoing participation.
“Whatever activity people are doing, they need to take a moment to consider the risk of injury so they can keep doing what they love.”
